My Personal Opinion On The Make Up Of A Bear Dog
They have to be bred right. The sires and dams have to be proven Bear Dogs. If in fact they are bred, the following traits should be imbedded into their genetic code:
They should be natural, early starting hunters.
They should strike as naturally as we breathe.
They don't have to be super cold nosed where the bear is miles away, nor too hot nosed, but should possess the brains to use their nose well.
After the Strike an unnatural intensity envelopes the dog as they try to get the track started.
They should be smart enough to start the track in the right direction, and move the track, if they make a lose they should be smart enough to circle around to find the track and keep it moving.
They should trail effortlessly.
They should chop steady on track, never silent.
They should be fast enough to catch up to the bear.
Their feet has to be tough enough to carry them day after day into battle.
They should be aggressive enough to make the bear want to climb.
If the bear dont feel like climbing just yet they should have the endurance, or mettle to stick with the bear, no matter what horrors the bear has to bring to them.
They should be able to give it right back to the bear with extreme pressure in the form of barks and bites.
They should be agile enough to get in and out of the inner circle, and do it consistently.
They have to work together effectively as a unit.
They must possess unrelenting attrition to stop the bear or make him climb.
They have to be natural tree dogs. They must stay treed until you get there.
About The Hunter
Once I turn my dogs loose that is my Binding Contract that I'll be there for them. I am totally committed once I let them go. They know their place in the pack and trust that I'll be there for them. They understand I'm the Alpha Male.
