About Me
My name is Clute Tyler, born in '71. I joined the Marines in '89, right after high school. I was born and raised on the Makah Indian Reservation.
I have been a commercial fishermen for most of my life. I troll for king salmon, longline for halibut and black cod. I fished in the Bering Sea for eight years. That was crazy! Bear hunting aint?
I got my first two Plotts from an old time Bear Hunter named Gordon Larson back in 1998. He was my mentor as well as a great friend. He passed on last year. God Bless His Soul.
He sold me the first two, they were named Joc & Doc. I asked him "How do I train them?" He said, "You just turn 'em loose!" I replied, "How do they do it?" He says, "They just do it." Those first few conversation still ring in my memory like it was yesterday.
Through trial and error we learned to hunt together, we turned eachother into bear hunters. I would find the sign, or the dogs would strike their silent crossings, and sooner or later we'd get the bear.
Both dogs endured serious punishment from bear over the years, and eventually they died. They was a two dog pack that caught bear for us. I still have their blood running in my pack.
Hannibal & Attila are my main dogs now. They are about as complete of bear dogs as I've witnessed. They are about the same as any of Gordon's other dogs, not any better nor are they worse.
We should always be very careful when making a cross, with consistencies in mind. Especially when making an outcross that we want to bring back to the genetic pool.
Linebreeding is what he taught me, and hunting the hell out of the dogs to see if they stand true to the likeness which we are aiming at.
Hannibal & Attila are five years old now and I've got to cross them soon. They have both seen alot of action over the years, and been to too many trees to not make a cross. They deserve to have their genetics passed on to the next generation. I would only be cheating them from eternal greatness if i never bred them.
We all need mentors along the way, and although I've lost Gordon, I've gained a few more that I wil be consulting with.
I am also a member of The American Plott Association, Inc.
